Animal Body Plan Flashcards
What is body plan?
The blueprint for the way the body of an organism is laid out.
What innovations allow diversity in animal forms?
Body symmetry, tissues, body cavities and patterns of embryonic development.
What is asymetrical symmetry ?
No symmetry e.g. Sponges
What is radial symmetry ?
The body parts around a central axis. E.G. Corals, anemonae
What is bilateral symmetry ?
A single imaginary Plame divides body into left and right sides that Are mirror of each other. E.G. Ladybug, crab
What Are the levels of organization?
Cell-tissue-organ systems-organism
How the embryonic development occurs?
Fertilisation-fertilised egg divides-blastula forms-gastrula forms-embryo develops
What is triploblastic?
Have ectoderm,mesoderm,endoderm
What happens to animals that don’t have a mesoderm ?
Very simple bodies
What is the coelom?
Cavity inside the body
What are acoelomates?
Animals with no body cavity. E.g. Dugesia sp
What Are pseudocoelomates?
Animals with a false body cavity.e.g. Nematode they have a hydrostatic skeleton
What Are coelomates?
Animals that have a true body cavity. E.g. Annelid
What Are protostomes?
Arregment of cells is in q spiral motion and are determinate (given a predeterminate job at a early stage)
What are deutorostome?
Cells Are arranged in a radial cleavage and are indeterminate (totipotent)
