Animal and plant cells Flashcards
In an animal cell what do the sub cellular structures include?
nucleus
cytoplasm
cell membrane
mitochondria
ribosomes
In a plant cell what do the sub cellular structures include?
nucleus
cytoplasm
cell membrane
mitochondria
ribosomes
cell wall
vacuole
chloroplasts
What does the nucleus do?
controls activities of the cell and contains genetic material
What does the cytoplasm do?
most of the chemical reactions take place
What does the cell membrane do?
controls the passage of substances in and out of the cells
What does the mitochondria do?
where aerobic respiration takes place
What do ribosomes do?
where proteins are synthesised (made)
What does the cell wall do?
made of cellulose and strengthens the cell
What does a permanent vacuole do?
filled with cell sap that supports plants
What do chloroplasts do?
absorb light to make food (glucose) by photosynthesis
What are eukaryotic cells?
cells with a nucleus
What are prokaryotic cells?
cells without a nucleus
Example of eukaryotic
plant, animal and fungal
Example of prokaryotic
bacterial cells
Which is smaller eukaryotic or prokaryotic?
prokaryotic
