What is sexual abuse of animals?
Any abuse or use of anus, rectum, genitalia for sexual gratification
What is neglectful abuse of animals?
To give not enough care or attention to people or things that are your responsibility = deprivation if the basic necessities of life – food, water, shelter vet/ed treatment, affection/companionship
What is emotional abuse of animals?
Threatening behaviour or emotional harassment
How can abusers be tracked down?
Microschips
What are the diagnostic pointers of NAI?
History inconsistent with injury
Discrepant history
Repetitive injury
Behaviour of owner/pet
What are the behavioural characteristics of the abused animal?
- May be subdued/frightened
- May show behaviour change
- May be frightened of men
- May still want to please and still welcome owner
- Happier when hospitalised
What is an s4 welfare offence?
Causing unnecessary suffering
What is an s5 welfare offence?
Mutilations
What is an s6 welfare offence?
Tail docking and ear cropping
What is an s7 welfare offence?
Poisons
What is an s8 welfare offence?
Animal fighting, including human vs animal
