Angular Kinetics Flashcards
1
Q
What is angular inertia?
A
measure of resistance to changes in angular motion of a body or implement
2
Q
How is angular inertia determined?
A
mass and mass distribution (distance of mass from axis of rotation)
3
Q
What is angular momentum?
A
changes in moment of inertia (body position) will be compensated by angular velocity (increases or decreases)
4
Q
How can gravity assist with rotation?
A
- Gravity can be a motive force that creates torque and angular motion
- gravity can also be a resistive force (slows motion)
5
Q
What is the angular interpretation of Newton’s 3rd Law?
A
For every torque exerted by one body on another, the other object exerts an equal torque back on the first but in the opposite direction (action/reaction)
