Angina & Myocardial Infarction Flashcards
Stable angina
(Exertional angina)
Occurs wth exercise or emotional stress and is relieved by rest or nitro
Unstable angina
(Preinfarction angina) accuses with exercise or emotional stresss, but it increases in occurrence, severity, and duration over time
Variant angina
(Prinzmetals angina)
Due to coronary artery spasm, often occurring during periods of rest.
Angina
- precipitated by exertion or stress
- relieved by rest or nitro
- symptoms last less than 15 minutes
- not associated with nausea, epigastric distress, dyspnea, anxiety, diaphoresis
Myocardial infarction
- can occur without cause, often in morning after rest
- relieved by opioids
- symptoms last more than 30 minutes
- associated with nausea, epigastric distress, dyspnea, anxiety, diaphoresis
Vasodilator
Nitroglycerin
Prevents coronary artery vasospasm and reduces preload and afterload decreasing myocardial oxygen demand
Analgesics
Morphing sulfate
-used to treat moderate to severe pain
Beta blockers
Metoprolol tartrate (lopressor) -decrease the imbalance between myocardial oxygen supply and demand by reducing afterload and slowing heart rate
Thrombolytic agents (-ase)
-streptokinase (streptase) & altepase(activate)
Used to break up clots
