- Anger management programmes are employed to help offenders combat their anger problems, and help them to better manage it.

- CBT teaches people how to control their irrational thoughts hence suggesting that the ppts will reduce their anger.

STEP ONE - COGNITIVE PREPARATION
A
- Offenders identify situations which are likely to invoke anger, so that thought patterns can be challenged and negative consequences of their angry actions considered.

STEP TWO - SKILL ACQUISITION
A
- new coping skills are learned to help deal with the anger-provoking situations, such as the ‘stop and think’ method or counting calmly; relaxation techniques are learned

STEP THREE - APPLICATION PRACTICE

- Offenders role-play a variety of scenarios to practice new anger controlling skills

What happens in anger management programme?
A
- consists of 24, 2 hour long sessions that occur on a regular basis
- aims to reduce frequency, duration of anger
- aims at young adult males prone to violence + recidivism
