natural experiment. compared 50 who did CALM therapy with group suitable for it but had not done it. interview and questionnaire. Those who did CALM considered themselves less angry and rated lower by prison guards.

analysed 58 studies using CBT with offenders. 20 of them looked at therapies where anger control was key element. foudn that having anger control element significantly related to amount of improvement.

way to deal with drop out is to assess ‘readiness to change’ to avoid wasting resources/time on people who will not benefit. e.g. anger readiness to change questionnaire.
Loza and Loza-Fanous
claim research linking aggression and crime are all laboratory. in their study of 300 male offenders, there was little difference in the level of anger in violent and non violent. though they could be masking their anger.
