Anesthesia Machine Flashcards
5 pathways of O2
1 - flow to fresh gas flowmeters 2 - powers O2 flush valve 3 - activates fail-safe mechanisms 4 - activates O2 low-pressure alarm 5 - compresses the bellows on the vent
fail-safe O2 alarm
tells us O2 supply reduced
less than set value
O2 low pressure alarm
Safety valve, located downstream from the N2O supply.
tells us pressure is reduced, can’t detect low O2, just pressure (doesn’t prevent hypoxic mixture)
shuts off N2O or proportionally decreases the supply, if O2 pressure decreases to predetermined threshold (25psi)
only O2 delivered
High pressure system
1 - cylinder/tanks
2 - pressure gauges
3 - pressure regulator
O2 cylinder = 2200psi
N2O = 4500psi
must be 45psi to enter mating
Intermediate pressure system
1 - pneumatic part of master
2 - pipeline sources (O2, N2O, air- DISS)
3 - Pressure regulators (second stage)
4 - oxygen pressure failure device
5 - oxygen flush valve (35-75L for check)
6 - flowmeter control valves (but not actual flowmeter)
Low pressure system
1 - flow meter tubes
2 - hypoxia prevention safety device (if try to deliver O2t give N2O)
3 - unidirectional valves (outlet check valve)
4 - pressure relief devices
5 - common gas outlet
6 - vaporizers/vaporizer manifold
7 - pressure is slightly above atm pressure
DISS
Diameter index safety system
provides non interchangeable connections for medical gas lines
connection consists of body, nipple, nut combo
only properly mater parts will fit together and allow the threads to engage
require for every anesthesia machine

Oxygen E cylinder
2000psi
625-700L
as O2 used, pressure falls proportionally
1/2 tank: 1000psi, 312.5L
flowmeter
purpose: measure gas flow to common gas outlet
thorpe/electronic
safety feature:
- gas coloring
- O2 knob distinctively fluted, projects beyond control knobs of other gases, larger in diameter
- O2 flow meter positioned downstream from nitrous prevents hypoxic mis if leak present but not fail proof
