Anesthesia Flashcards
Goals of Anesthesiologist
Loss of consciousness, pain and memory of the patient; Maintain vital functions such as cardiovascular , pulmonary and renal. Keep patient from moving (muscle relaxation). Help us by maintaining conditions for monitoring.
Define Anesthesia
Loss of consiousness
Analgesia
Absence of pain
Amnesia
Absence of memory
Define MAC
Minimun Alveolar Concentration
The amount of agent required to prevent movement in 50% of patients when exposed to a painful stimulation like an incision
What is the dose and potency for Isoflurane
1.15% semi short (Purple)
What is the dose and potency for Desflurane
6% fast acting (Blue)
What is the dose and potency for Sevoflurane
1.71% intermediate (Yellow)
What is the dose and potency for Haloflurane
.77% Fairly rapid
What is the dose and potency for Enflurane
1.7% (brown)
What is the dose and potency for Nitrous oxide
104% fast
Narcotic (Opiod)
Potent analgesic (Pain), light blue label, can decrease respiratory function. most end in “il” or “yl”
Sufenatanil
most petent narcotic
Morphine
Narcotic long lasting (3-4 hrs)
Fentanyl
Most common narcotic
Alfentanyl
Short acting narcotic
Remyfentanyl
Narcotic used as infusion due to it being so short acting.
Propofol/Dipravan
Hypnotic used for anesthesia (consciousness), can supplement or replace halogens. Causes dose dependant SSEP changes decrease in amp and increase latency. Milky white liquid
Benzodiazepines
Tranquilizer, good for amnesia (forgetting). Causes decrease in amp and increase latency, greater effect than narcotics.
Versed/Midazolam
Benzodiazepines
Valium/Diazepam
Benzodiazepines
Ativan/Lorazapam
Benzodiazepines
Klonopin/Clonazepam
Benzodiazepines
Barbituates
Neuroprotective agents that reduces the metabolic rate of brain so it can tolerate ischemia for longer. Used as induction agent. Causes decrease amplitude and increase latency but not s bad as gasses.
Methohexital
Barbituates
Phenobarbital
Barbituates
Pentobarbital
Barbituates
Neuromuscular blockers
Keeps patient relaxed. Bright red label. Binds to Acetylcholine in themotor end plate bloacks ach.
Succinyl choline
Depolarizes ACH receptor, short acting 15-20 min
Mivacurium (Mivacron)
25-30 min
Atracurium (Trachrium)
30-60 min
Vecuronium (Norcuron)
30-60 min
Cis-Atracurium (Nimbex)
30-60 min
Rocuronium (Zemuron)
30-60 min
Pancuronium (Pavulon)
60 min
