Anatomy- Pleura Flashcards
Give the subdivisions of the parietal pleura.
Cervical
Costal
Mediastinal
Diaphragmatic
Describe each subdivision of the parietal pleura.
Cervical pleura- covers the apex of the lung. Care attention when using an anesthetic needle. Lined with sibsons fascia or suprapleural membrane.
Costa pleura - lines thoracic wall and separated by endothoracic fascia.
Medistinal pleura - covers mediastinum and forms lateral boundary. Continues with visceral pleura.
Diaphragmatic pleura - covers superior surface of diaphragm.
What is the surface markings for the inferior line of the pleural reflection?
Right lung - 8th, 10th, 12th rib
Left lungs - 6th CC from midline
What is the surface markings for the posterior line of the pleural reflection?
2cm T12 and 2cm C7
Give the relations of the right and left costo-diaphragmatic recess.
Right - liver and posterior part of right kidney
Left - Fundus of stomach, spleen and posterior part of left kidney.

State the development of the parietal pleura.
Somatopleuric layer of lateral plate mesoderm.
Give the development of the pulmonary pleura.
Splanchopleuric layer of lateral plate mesoderm.
Give the development of the pulmonary pleura.
Splanchopleuric layer of lateral plate mesoderm.
What is the location that the Costo-diaphragmatic recess can be entered without causing injury?
Between the 9th and 10th intercostal spaces.
Give the blood supply of the parietal and pulmonary pleura.
Parietal - intercostal, internal thoracic, musculophrenic artery
Pulmonary - bronchial vessels.
Note: Parietal is pain sensitive. Pulmonary is pain insensitive.
