ANATOMY: pelvic Cavity & Reproductive System Flashcards
Structures of pelvic floor
Pubococcygeus
Puborectalis
Iliococcygeus
Attaches from the pubis to midline as far back as the coccyx.
Can be further subdivided into puboprostaticus, pubovaginalis, and puboanalis depending on associated structures.
Pubococcygeus
Attaches from the pubis, passing inferiorly to form a sling around the rectum.
Maintains the perineal flexure to keep the GI system closed.
Puborectalis
Attaches from the obturator internus muscle fascia to join the paired muscle in the midline.
Iliococcygeus
Sexual brain is?
Entire Limbic system
What is required for target of range of sensory impulses?
Neocortex
Both limbic and neocortex are then involved in interpreting these impulses and putting them into context. What other factors come into play at this stage?
Cognitive factors
What generate sexual excitement- erection ?
Psychological and physical stimulation
Nerve responsible for physical stimulation
Pudendal nerve
What nerve is responsible for psychological stimulation?
Prostatic nerve plexus (S2-4) - parasympathetic
Semen is delivered to………..from ………. by ………..
Prostatic urethra
Epididymis
Peristaltic action
System is effects of emission & ejaculation
Raise BP and HR
Increase in muscle tone
Changes such as vagina lubrication, increase clitoral size, engorgement of the labia and increased sensitivity to the genitalia and other areas of the body.
These changes are mainly been controlled by the?
Parasympathetic nervous system
Engorgement (erection in females) is controlled by which nerves?
Pelvic splanchnic nerves (parasympathetic S2-4)
Climate (orgasm) is controlled by?
Sympathetic- T10-L2
