what are anatomical orientational keys
these allow us to understand drawing and diagrams of the body, e.g. heart, brain, bones, etc. from different angles
anterior & posterior
anterior- from above/top
posterior- below/bottom
superior and inferior
superior-
medial & lateral
medial- middle
lateral- side
posterior & anterior
posterior- back
anterior- front
proximal & distal
proximal- close to midline of body
distal- far from midline of body
Body visions
the body can be divided use planes or sections; imaginary slices through the whole body, dividing it into two parts.
Median plane
Midline; splits the body straight down the middle
Transverse section
divides the body into tom and bottom halves (splits at the waist)
Sagittal section
divides the body, excluding the head and feet, down the middle
Frontal section
divides the body from the neck to the ankles horizontally through the middle, back and front
