Anatomy Of The Eye Flashcards
Conjunctiva
Mucous membrane inside eyelid, causes conjunctivitis or pink eye when irritated and inflamed
Cornea
Transparent membrane on eye in which we see. Process of seeing starts with focusing on received light. Has 5 layers
Sclera
The white of eye related to conjunctiva
Choroid
Mid layer of eye b/w sclera and retina. Contains layers of blood vessels for support
Ciliary body
Ligaments that holds eye in place. Secretes aqueous humour for lubrication
Iris
Colour of eye. Responds to light by changing pupil size
Pupil
Black part of iris that changes size in different amounts of received light
Lens
Second component to focus light rays. Behind iris, light passes, travels through vitreous on retina.
Cateract= clouded lense
Retina
Black inner part of eye where light turns into electrical impulses (image is formed)
Fovea
Very centre of retina that contains cells to allow colour vision
Blind spot
Whole in retina where optic nerve connects to brain (if light hits hits, can’t produce an image)
Vitreous humour
Gelatin like matter b/w lens and retina
“Moving speaks” of vision are located here
Aqueous humour
Clear fluid between anterior and posterior chamber produced by ciliary body
Controls pressure inside eye, giving front of eye it’s shape
13 structures
