what are the 2 muscles of the middle ear and what are their functions?
A
tensor tympani - dampens sound by reducing vibrations of tympanic membrane
stapedius - holds stapes in position

what happens to the tympanic membrane in too high or low atmospheric pressures?
A
too high –> pushes in
too low –> pushes out
both cause reduced vibrations, muffled sounds and potential for barotrauma
