Anatomy of the Conjunctiva Flashcards
What nerve supplies the conjunctiva?
CNV1
Infraorbital nerve supplies the inferior part
What is the limbus nerve supply?
Long ciliary nerve
What is the blood supply to the conjunctiva?
Peripheral and marginal arcades of the eyelid supply the palpebral and forniceal part of the conjunctiva
Bulbar part is supplied by the posterior and anterior conjunctival arteries
How is the lymph drained from the conjunctiva?
Drains to the submandibular nodes medially and lateral parts drain to the periauricular nodes
What is the conjunctiva?
This is a continuation of the eyelid, a translucent mucous membrane which covers the anterior globe and terminates at the corneoscleral limbus.
What are the three parts of the conjunctiva?
Palpebral
Forniceal (a loose fold made, covering the posterior eyelid and anterior surface of eyelid)
Bulbar - thinnest part
Where does the palpebral part of the conjunctiva start?
the mucocutaneous transitional zone of the lid margin.
Strongly adherent to the posterior part of the tarsal plates
Where is the bulbar conjunctiva located?
thinnest part
coves anterior part of sclera
Loosely attached except at limbus - fuses with underlying sclera and tenons capsule
