Anatomy - Muscular System Flashcards
What are type 1 muscle fibres (slow oxidative) used for ?
Marathon runner (long distances)
What are type 2a muscle fibres (fast oxidative glycolytic) used for ?
400m race
What are type 2b muscle fibres (fast glycolytic) used for ?
100m sprint
What is the contractile speed of each muscle fibre type ?
Type 1 = slow
Type 2a = fast
Type 2b= fast
What is an isotonic muscle contraction compared to a isometric ?
In an isotonic contraction the muscle is changing length when exerting a force whereas in an isometric contraction the muscle is staying the same length
Name the two types of isotonic contraction and their properties
Isotonic concentric = shorten under contraction
Isotonic eccentric = lengthen when contracts
