skill aq - Memory models Flashcards
Explain the different parts of the Atkinson and Shiffron multi store memory model
Sensory memory -> pay attention to stimulus -> Short term memory -> rehearse skill -> Long term memory (can retrieve from LTM to STM)
give an advantage and disadvantage of the atkinson and Shiffron model
+
* too simple
* explains hoe we deal with large quantities of info
* explain why people with memory loss csn remember things from a long time ago
-
* too simple
* does not quantify how much repition is required
* does not account for individual differences
what can you do to increase retention of infomation
chunking, repitition, make the infomation relevant
Describe the stages of the Craik and Lockhart model
Long term memory
semantic processing (meaning)
phonetic processing (sounds)
structual processing (physical qualities)
give a positive and a negative of the craik and lockheart model
+
* explain how greater understanding leads to longer memory
* explain how greater analysis improves memory retention
-
* difficult to define deep processing
* doesnt consider individual differences
