anatomy: limbs Flashcards
What are the 3 thenar muscles?
Abductor pollicis brevis, flexor pollicis brevis, opponens pollicis
What does the abductor pollicis brevis do?
Pulls the thumb away from the palm
What does the flexor pollicis brevis do?
Flex the metacarpophalangeal joint
What does the opponent policies do?
Rotates the metacarpal
What is medial and deep to the thena muscles?
Adductor pollicis
What does the adductor pollicis do?
Exerts pressure on an object when its being gripped
What innervates the thenar muscles?
Median nerve
What innervates the adductor polices?
Ulnar nerve
Where are the thenar muscles?
At the base of the thumb
Where are the hypothenar muscles?
At the base of the little finger
What are the 3 hypothenar muscles?
Abductor digiti minimi, flexor digiti minimi and opponens digiti minimi
What innovates the hypothenar muscles?
Ulnar nerve
How many lumbrical muscles are there?
4
What innervates the 2 medial lumbricals?
Ulnar nerve
What innervates the lateral 2 lumbricals?
Median nerve
What are the lumbrical muscles used for?
Flex the metacarpophalangeal and extend the interphalangeal joints
Where are the interossei muscles?
Between the metacarpal bones
What are the 2 groups of interossei muscles?
Palmar and dorsal
What do the palmar interossei do?
Palmar interossei ADduct (PAD) the fingers (fingers move towards the middle finger)
What do the dorsal interossei do?
Dorsal interossei ABduct (DAB)
What innervates the interossei?
Ulnar nerve
What supplies the trapezius?
Cranial nerve xi (accessory nerve)
What innovates the scapular muscles (and pectoralis minor and major)
Branches off brachial plexus
What innovates the deltoid muscle?
Axillary
