anatomy Flashcards
principal arterial vessels: recall the position and relations of the principle arterial vessels
where do arteries branch divergently from
aorta
what are the primary branches
trunk vessels
what do trunk vessels bifurcate into
smaller arteries
what are the three branches of the aortic arch
brachiocephalic trunk (arm and head), left common carotid artery, left subclavian artery
what does the brachiocephalic trunk bifurcate into
right subclavian artery (arm), right common carotid artery (head)
naming of arteries
most take into account organ perfused, anatomical location and side of body; some major conduit arteries go by different names in different parts of the body
arterial network
benjis
what does the left common carotid artery bifurcate into
internal and external carotid arteries at top of neck
where do subclavian arteries run under
clavicle
4 arteries supplying arms
axillary (continuation of subclavian to armpit), brachial (continuation of axillary from axilla to cubital fossa, splitting into radial and ulnar arteries), radial (associated with radial bone, supplying lateral forearm), ulnar (associated with ulnar bone, supplying medial forearm)
6 arteries supplying trunk
abdominal aorta, splenic, renal, superior mesenteric, inferior mesenteric, common iliac
5 arteries supplying legs
internal iliac (pelvis), external iliac (leg), femoral (associated with femur, supplying thigh and leg), popliteal (over knee), anterior and posterior tibial arteries
