Anatomy Flashcards
pharynx
throat
schpincters
gastroesophageal schphincter pyloric schphincter ileocecal sphincter series of rectal sphincters
parasympathetic vs. sympathetic
Rest and Digest - relaxes sphincters, promotes secretion and peristalsis Fight and Flight- tightens sphincters, peristalsis stops, secretion of dig stuff stops
hiatus
opening
GERD/esophagitis
gastroesophageal reflex disease, inflammation of lower esophagus due to reflux of gastric contents
crura
hernias - find out more and fix
striated muscle vs. smooth muscle
voluntary vs. involuntary
gastric pacemaker
~5 times per minute contracts from top to bottom
pyloric stenosis
very thick sphincter that does not relax, vomitting all the time (5th week after birth), congenital - can actually feel the bump sometimes - gets missed often - simple operation (used to do with local anesthetic)
regional ileitis
Crohn’s can occur anywhere in GI tract, but most common in ileum, differs from colitis that can be anywhere.
cecum
sac at start of large intestine, attached to appendix. leads to ascending colon
sigmoid colon
s shaped at end, leads to rectum
hepatic flecture
bend near liver
splenic flecture
bend between transverse and descending colon near the spleen
ulcerative colitis
involves only the colon, begins in the rectum and works backwards, entire colon = pan colitis
