Anatomy Flashcards
Describe the Anatomical Position
standing facing forwards (towards you): “facing anteriorly” face & eyes looking anteriorly upper limbs by side palms of hands facing anteriorly feet together toes pointing anteriorly
Name the two sets of veins the body has
Superficial : nearer to the surface of the body Deep : further from the surface of the body
The upper limb is comprised of?
Proximal to distal: The arm, forearm and hand
The lower limb is comprised of?
Proximal to distal: The thigh, leg and foot
Anterior (ventral)
nearer the front
Posterior (dorsal)
nearer the back
superior (cranial)
upward / nearer the head
inferior (caudal)
downward / nearer the feet
The external jugular vein is an example of which set of veins? Superficial or deep?
superficial
The internal jugular vein is an example of which set of veins? Superficial or deep?
deep
posterior surface of wrist, posterior surface of hand, superior surface of foot and posterior surface of tongue are all examples of which anatomical relationship?
Dorsal
Volar is?
The anterior surface of the wrist
Palmar is?
The anterior surface of the hand
Plantar is?
The inferior surface of the foot
Ventral is?
The anterior surface of the tongue
Unilateral is?
The structure is normally only found on one side of the body. e.g. appendix on the right side
Bilateral
Normally paired structures, a left and right. e.g. the kidneys
Ipsilateral
Structure lies on the the same side of the body as the other structure or location it is being compared to.
Contralateral
Structure lies on the opposite side of the body to the other structure or location it is being compared to.
The lymphatic system and cardiovascular system form which system?
Circulatory
The musculoskeletal system is comprised of which systems?
The muscular The skeletal The articular
Name the 4 basic tissue types
Muscle Epithelia Nerves Connective tissue
What is the major lymphatic vessel in the body that returns lymph to large veins in the root of the neck?
The thoracic duct
The functions of bone
support and protection of body organs calcium metabolism red blood cell formation attachment for skeletal muscle
