Intracranial pressure is constant unless you alter what 3 things?
CSF, blood or brain volumes
If the intracranial pressure rises, what can happen to structures in the brain? Give some examples.
They can be pushed out. E.g. the brainstem, and sometimes even cerebellum can be pushed out of the foramen magnum
Where does the optic nerve come off?
Diencephalon
Where does sensory supply to the dura mater come from?
CNV
Where in the dura will blood vessels be found?
In the subarachnoid space
Rupture of vessels in the subarachnoid space will cause what?
Subdural haematoma
What does the Pia adhere to?
The brain, and any blood vessels or nerves leaving it
Where is CSF reabsorbed? Via what?
The dural venous sinuses via the arachnoid granulations
What spinal levels could a lumbar puncture be performed at?
L3/4, L4/5
Where does the spinal cord end?
L2
Where does the dura/CSF end?
S2
‘Down and out’ suggests a palsy of which nerve?
CNIII
Where does CNIII come off?
Midbrain
Which ocular nerve is known for having a long intra-cranial course?
CNIV
