Anatomy Flashcards
What artery/vein serves the ovaries?
Ovarian artery
What artery serves the uterus and what ligament does it pass through?
Uterine artery and suspensory ligament

What artery/vein serves the vagina?
Vaginal artery
Which two arteries of the womb have an anastamosis?
Uterine and Ovarian

Where does the ovarian artery come from?
Abdominal aorta

Where do the uterine and vagina arteries come from?
The internal iliac

What is the relationship of the ureters to the arteries of the womb?
They run over the common iliacs and under the ovarian and uterine arteries (water under the bridge)

A summary of the blood flow to the womb

What is the main sensory nerve to the vagina and what is the spinal origin of it?
Pudendal nerve - S2, S3, S4
S2, S3, S4 keeps the mess off the floor

What are the main ligaments of the vagina?
- Broad
- Round
- Suspensory
- Ovarian

What is the pouch between the vagina and the rectum called and when is it used clinically?
RectoUterine Pouch (Pouch of Douglas)
It is used when performing a vaginal hysterectomy

What is the pouch between the vagina and the bladder called and when is it used clinically?
VesicoUterine Pouch
It used when performing a abdominal hysterectomy and C-Section

What does the female external genitalia look like?

Which muscles make up the levator ani?
- Iliococcygeus
- Pubococcygeus
- Puborectalis

What are the main muscles of the female genitalia?
- Ischiocavernosus
- Bulbospongeosus
- Superficial transverse muscle of the perinium
- Profound transverse muscle of the perinium

What are the main bones of the hip?
Ilium
Ischium
Pubis

Where is the obturator foramen and what goes through it?
Obtuator artery, vein and nerve

What are the differences between a male and female pelvis?
Female is wider pubic arch, circular pelvic inlet, sacrum tilted back
The male is also heavier

What is the anatomy of the womb?

What are the hip movement muscles?
Flexion - Hip flexors (quads). iliacus, psoas major
Extension - Hamstrings
Abduction - Tensor fascia lata, gluteus medius, maximus and medius
Adduction - Adductor longus, brevis, magnus
Internal rotation - Gluteus medius and minimus
External rotation - Piriformis, gluteus maximus

Sacrotuberous
Anterior longitidual
Supraspinous
Superior/inferior pubic ligament
Transverse muscle of the acetabalum
Dorsosacroiliac ligament
