anatomy Flashcards
what is the superficial fascia composed of?
loose connective tissue + fat (adipose)
contains superficial blood vessels, nerves, lymphatics, sweat glands
what is deep fascia composed of?
dense connective tissue
how does deep fascia help venous return?
forms intermuscular septa - divides body/muscles into compartments
tight around muscles - helps muscular pump for venous return
what are end arteries?
only blood supply in that area - digital arteries
occlusion = infarct = potential amputation
where are all the pulse points?
bifurcation of common carotid (neck)
brachial
radial
femoral
popliteal
posterior tibial
dorsalis pedis
main superficial veins in upper limbs
cephalic vein
– from dorsal venous network up lateral aspect into axillary vein
basilic vein
– from dorsal venous network up MEDIAL aspect into brachial vein
where do the cephalic + basilic vein meet?
median cubital vein
main superficial veins in lower limbs
great saphenous vein (thigh)
– dorsal venous arch up medial aspect into femoral vein (pierces fascia lata in area of femoral triangle)
small saphenous vein
– dorsal venous arch up posterior midline into popliteal vein (popliteal fossa)
what are vena comitantes?
veins that accompany deep arteries
surrounded by vascular sheath
most common site of venous ulceration
gaiter - medial aspect of distal leg
effect of complete occlusion of saddle embolus in pulmonary trunk
arrests circulation
process of venous ulceration
venous pressure increases - damages blood vessels in skin
where do deep lymphatics of the upper limb drain?
lateral axillary lymph nodes
–>axillary lymph nodes drain to subclavian lymphatics
where do deep lymphatics of the lower limbs drain?
popliteal lymph nodes
–>external iliac veins then drain to common iliac nodes and enter lumbar lymphatics
what is the thick part of the fascia lata called?
iliotibial tract
