Coronal/Frontal
Separates anterior and posterior portions of the body
Midsagittal
Passes through midline, dividing the body in right and left halves
Parasagittal
Parallel to midsagittal, but on the midline so right and left halves are unequal

What would you find in the dorsal cavity?
a. cranial cavity contents = brain
b. spinal cavity contents = spinal cord
What would you find in the ventral body cavity?
a. thoracic cavity
- pleural cavities, contains lungs
- mediastinum
- - pericardial cavity - contains the heart
- - additional contents: thymus, trachea, esophagus, and aorta
b. abdominopelvic cavity
- abdominal cavity, contains stomach, SI, liver, spleen, kidney
- pelvic cavity, contains bladder, reproductive organs, sigmoid colon
What are the serous membranes? What layers are there?
- Pericardium
- Pleurae
- Peritoneum
Visceral (inner) layer & parietal (outer) layer
What is a long bone?
Longer than they are wide. Have a diaphysis, epiphysis, and medullary cavity
What is a short bone?
Boxlike with an outer surface of compact bone and a spongy bone interior
What is a flat bone?
Large surface area bones with thin, parallel layers of compact bone and a spongy bone core
What are irregular bones?
Complex shapes
what is the sesamoid bone?
Patella
What is a sutural bone?
Small, flat, oddly shaped; formed between sutures of skull
