Define: proximal
A part nearer to the attachment of the limb to the body
Define: Distal
A part further from the attachment of a limb to the body
Define: Superior
A point closer than another to the head end of the body
Define: Inferior
A point that is further than another away from the head end of the body
Define: Anterior/Ventral surface
The front surface of the body or structure
Define: Posterior/Dorsal surface
The back of any structure or body
Define: Medial
A structure lying closer than another to the mid-line of the body
Define: Lateral
A structure lying further than another away from the mid-line of the body
Define: top and bottom surface of foot
Dorsum (upper surface)
Plantar (sole)
Define: top and bottom surface of hand
Dorsal (upper surface)
Palmar (palm of hand)
Define: Supine position
Body lying on its posterior/dorsal surface

Body lying on its anterior/ventral surface
