Anatomical orientation II Flashcards
1
Q
Sulci (sulcus) and gyri (gyrus)
A
- covers the surface of the brain
- surface is folded and 2/3 is hidden => increases the surface area
Note: surface is not smooth
Gyrus = ridge (like a bridge)
Sulcus = groove between rridges
2
Q
Contralateral control
Ipsilateral
Decussate
A
- opposite side, e.g. left brain controls right side of the body
- same side, which occurs in some parts of the cerebellum (olfactory and taste ARE uncrossed)
- cross over (e.g. sensory and motor fibers cross over)
3
Q
Topographical organization of the brain
A
there is somatotopic mapping which is what we look like according to the brain
