Sulci (sulcus) and gyri (gyrus)

A
  • covers the surface of the brain
  • surface is folded and 2/3 is hidden => increases the surface area
    Note: surface is not smooth

Gyrus = ridge (like a bridge)
Sulcus = groove between rridges

  • same side, which occurs in some parts of the cerebellum (olfactory and taste ARE uncrossed)
  • cross over (e.g. sensory and motor fibers cross over)
