Superior
A body part that is located above another e.g the stomach is superior to the knee
Inferior
A body part that is located below another e.g the tibia is inferior to the femur
Anterior
In front of, to the front, or near the front of the body e.g the quads are anterior to the hamstrings
Posterior
Behind, to the back of, or nearer the back of the body e.g the hamstrings are posterior to the quads
Lateral
A point away from the midline of the body e.g the humerus is lateral to the spine
Medial
A point closer to the midline of the body e.g the pectorals are medial to the bicep
Proximal
A point nearer to the origin of a body part e.g the patella is proximal to the pelvis compared to the ankle
Distal
A point furthest away from the origin of the body part e.g the quads are distal to the cranium compared to the pectorals
Supine
Lying on your back
Prone
Lying on your front
