Analgesics Flashcards
e. g. Paroxetine, Citalopram
- Antidepressant analgesic
- Prevent recycling of neurotransmitters and enhance the signal
- Works well in diseased environment
- Drowsiness, nausea, dry mouth, insomnia, diarrhea, dizziness, reduced libido
Selective Serotonin re-uptake inhibitors
e. g. Venlafaxine, Duloxetine
- Antidepressant analgesic
- Prevent recycling of neurotransmitters and enhance the signal
- Highly selective for neuropathic pain
- Prescribed for diabetic neuropathy
- Nausea, dizziness, headache, drowsiness
Serotonin and noradrenaline re-uptake inhibitors
- Antiepilleptic analgesic
- Not very effective
- Used in neuralgia and diabetic neuropathies
- Blocks sodium, calcium, GABA and glycine receptors
- Dizziness, diplopia, drowsiness, fatigue, nausea, hepatoxicity
Carbamazepine
- Antiepilleptic analgesic
- Works in various neuropathic pain
- Mechanism not fully known- may work the same as carbamazepine?
- Anorexia, dyspepsia, tremor
Gabapentin
- Anaesthetics
- Inhibits voltage gated sodium channels or NMDA receptors
- Prevents nervous cell communication
- Used in increasing neuropathic pain and emergency medicine
Lidocaine and Ketamin
Side effects of Lidocaine…
CNS effects, respiratory depression, convulsions, hypotension, bradycardia
Side effects of Ketamine…
Hypertension, tachycardia, tremor, diplopia, myocardial depression
