What is an anal fistula?
A
Anal fistula from rectum to perianal skin; inflammatory tract with internal os at dentate line, external os on skin.

A
- Same perirectal process as anal abscess; usually ass/w abscess
- Post op
- Trauma
- Anal fissure
- Malignancy
- Radiation proctitis

CFx anal fistula?
A
- Intermittent/constant purulent discharge from perianal opening
- Pain
- Palpable cord like tract

What is Goodsall’s rule?
A
Fistulas originating anterior to transverse line through the anus will course straight and exit anteriorly; those with exit posterior to transverse line will have a curved tract and originate in the midline.
