Acute anal fissure, how would it be treated?

A
  • Ensure stool passes easier
    • Treat with bulk forming or osmotic laxatives
    • Topical or local anaesthetic (lidocaine)- only used for a few days
    • Topical corticosteroids - use no more than 7 days due to side effects

A

Pregnancy - bulk forming laxatives - no topical hemorrhoidal preparations - only simple soothing preps if needed
