Anaerobic Performance Flashcards
What is anaerobic energy?
the generation of energy wo/ oxygen
Where does anaerobic energy transfer take place?
Cytosol (watery part of cell)
ATP-PCr reaction
ATP -> ADP + p1 + Energy
Which enzymes breaks down ATP
ATPase
Why is lactate accumulation good?
because NAD+ is produced as a bi-product and so can be reduced and more energy produced through the electron transport chain
What happens when creatine kinase reaction is inhibited
KO mice
Adaption - ^ mitochondrial density and structural reorganization of mitochondria in cell
PO2 of oxygen in Control and CK inhibited KO mice
PO2 drops alot faster in KO mice due to the adaptations
what is MRS
magnetic resonance spectroscopy
what is PCr response to incremental exercise
stays high until 8 mins but slowly decrease to around 30% after 20 mins
what is PCr response to step exercise
Step exercise = large jumps in intensity
stays high for low intensity but constantly drops till exhaustion in high intensity
How does PCr recover post exercise
resynthesized by oxidative phosphorylation (reverse reaction)
takes 2-5 mins
Where does the ATP need to made PCr come from and what is it combined with
Aerobic pathway, & creatine
Following onset of exercise what happens to PCr levels and Oxygen uptake
PCr down oxygen ^ but follow the same curve
What does a 6s sprint do to PCr levels
reduce too 35-55%
how does fibre type effect PCr usage
fast twitch uses more (force production)
