Anaerobic Long Term Adaptations Flashcards
What adaptations take place predominantly using ATP-PC system
Muscular hypertrophy
Increased PC stores in the muscles
Increased bone density and increased strength of tendons
Development of 2b muscle fibres and utilisation of 2a
Coordination of neural system improves
Adaptations from using predominantly the lactic acid system
Greater tolerance to lactic acid (greater buffering capacity of muscles) so athlete can work harder for longer
Increase muscle glycogen stores
Increase insulin sensitivity- better control of blood glucose levels
Improvements to sporting performance
Performer can increase amount of force, power, speed and strength due to muscular hypertrophy
Performer can remain in the anaerobic zone for longer due to increased glycogen and PC stores and increased tolerance to lactic acid. =Anaerobic threshold is higher
