Anaerobic Bacteria Flashcards
By definition, Anaerobic Bacteria are
obligate anaerobes, spore-forming, they derive all their energy from fermentation producing organic acids, alcohols
Anaerobic pathogens
are normal flora that escape their normal compartment, soil organisms that enter through vacuum packed foods, and soil organisms that enter through wounds
the 3 major pathogenic Anaerobe groups
Clostridium, GNAB and Actinomyce, Clostridia and Actinomyce are gram +,
which of them are part of the normal flora
GNAB, Actinomyces and C.difficile, all the other Clostridia are soil organisms
anaerobic virulence depends
largely on exotoxin expression, and also tissue degrading enzymes for gas gangrene and abscesses
treatment of anaerobe pathogens
surgical care or antitoxin, followed by antibiotics
