What is Mean cell volume (MCV) ?

A

The size of red blood cells.

Microcytic anaemia = low MCV
Normocytic anaemia = Normal MCV
Macroblastic anaemia = High MCV

A

T: thalassemia
A: Anaemia of chronic disease
I : Iron deficiency anaemia
L: Lead iron poisoning
S: Sideroblastic anaemia

A

A: Acute blood loss
A: Anaemia of chronic disease
A: Aplastic anaemia
H: Haemolytic anaemia

Causes of macrocytic anaemia?

A

Two types megoblastic + normoblastic

Megablastic = bad dna synthsis causing the cells not to divide properly

Normoblastic = Where cells grow to vitamin defficency.
