Care of the amputated part

A
  1. Remove gross contamination by irrigating w/ NS
  2. Wrap in saline-impreginated gauze
  3. Cover to prevent freezing
  4. Preserve at 4 degrees celsius (1/2 ice and 1/2 water) Put it in plastic w/ water proof tape

2 things to keep in mind w/ amputated part and water/ice

A

Ice decreases circulation so don’t put it right on top

Water causes hypertonic = swelling so wrap it in a bag w/ water proof tape
