Amnesia
Loss of long term memory as the result of injury, disease or trauma.
Retrograde Amnesia
Loss of memory of events that occured before development of amnesia.
Anterograde Amnesia
Loss of memory of events that occured after development of amnesia, impaired ability to learn and remember new things.
Schema
Patterns of thoughts or behaviours that organize categories of information and the relationships among them.
Active Reconstruction
Remembering a small amount about an event, and elaborating on it with knowledge of similar events. Therefore the memory is not an exact recollection, just a construct.
Omission
Leaving out unpleasant or irrelevant details while remembering something.
Transformation
Details being changed to seem more rational to us.
Familiarisation
Changing unfamiliar details in memories to align with our own schema.
Rationalisation
Adding details to a recall to make it align with our schema.
