Anterograde amnesia

A
  1. inability to store any new long-term memories following a brain injury
  2. has an intact short-term memory so can process sensory information in that moment of time
  3. unable to lay down any new memories that last beyond a few minutes
  4. damaged ability to transfer information from short-term memory to long-term memory
  5. It is typical for the patient to retain long-term memory from before the incident

Retrograde amnesia

A
  1. cannot remember information from before the brain injury
  2. can be specific to one memory or limited to a specific time frame
  3. in severe cases, patients can forget who they are and where they come from
  4. possible for people to regain some or all of their lost memory
