Amino Acids Flashcards
What are three examples of conjugations involving amino acids?
Glutathione (GSH)
Glycine
Glutamine
What are the three amino acids in the Glutathione conjugation?
Glycine
Cystine
Glutamic acid
What are the three main groups conjugated in glutathione?
Ar-X, Arene oxide, epoxide. There are variations.
What is the structure of Glutathione?
Tri-peptide structure
What is the function of Glutathione (GSH)?
At normal doses, GSH conjugates with NAPQI, therefore deactivating it, to prevent the toxicity of NAPQI.
What is NQPQI?
A Quinone metabolite of Paracetamol that is an oxidative metabolite and is hepatotoxic at high levels.
What happens if there is a deficiency in Glutathione?
The NAPQI won’t be conjugated, therefore causing toxicity.
