Amino Acids Flashcards
What is the conformation of the 20 amino acids and why?
The conformation is a-amino acids
Because
- the amide group and carbon group are attached to the same a-carbon
Draw out the 20 amino acids
List down non-polar, polar, positive and negative charged amino acids.
N-Polar - Govind And Valine Live In Mansion With Purple Flag
Polar-Naughty Twin Sisters Quizzed Young Chris Harry
Positive (base)- arg and lysine
Negative (acidic)- Glu and asp
What are the two types of stereoisomers?
Stereoisomers are non mirror images of a compound. Same composition but different spatial arrangements.
Diastereoisomers and enantiomers.
Diastereisomers occur when only some chirality changes eg- Cis and trans , SSS -> SRS
Enantiomers occurs when all chirality changes eg- D and L , SSS-> RRR
Amino acids occur in D or L configuration?
L and chiral
How many amino acids are achiral, chiral , have more then 1 chiral centre
A chiral - 1 - glycine
More then one chiral centre - 2 - thr and ile
Chiral - 17 - the rest
DRAWING STRUCTURES
1- draw the D and L configuration of glyceraldehyde and serine and glycine
Note- glycine is glycine, no D and L , bcz not chiral
Or just L bcz all naturally occurring AA are in L configuration
2-Draw the cis and trans of maleic and fumaric acid
Draw the two configuration of thalidomide
