In 1862 the forcing of the native Americans onto reservations began and the first year of crops failed and the compensation promised by the US government containing food never arrived this lead to little crow and a band of 307 men to revolt to attack a group of white trader and settlers. Twenty men where killed and 10 women and children the food and other provisions where taken then they later attack a party of solders theses attack for several months until several hundred Sioux where killed due to lack of resources and red cloud was shot

1863-1864
The leader of the Cheyenne black kettle who was a peaceful man and agreed under the terms of the fort Laramie treaty then moved onto the settlement sand creek reservation in Colorado. The land on the reservation was dry and infertile this made it impossible for the native Americans to grow crops but then in 1863 they where facing starvation so began raids on wagon trains to get food they never attacked anyone just stole the food but later they where attacked and slaughtered even after they surrendered Chivington where still slaughtered he later left the army

When migration began in large numbers to mine in the black hills the Sioux attacked the travelers on the Bozeman trail later the Sioux ambushed the army under the leadership of Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse who ambushed them at the fort and this lead to the retreat of the US army

The winter campaign took place in the winter due to the fact the native Americans never attacked during this period of time therefore the US government attacked black kettle and the Cheyenne the white flag was also flown but the native Americans where still slaughtered.

This was the greatest victory for the native American army due to the fact that the mass army of the Sioux slaughtered the 9th cavalry and their leader general Custer but this was not the only battle there was one previous to this battle at rose bud creek where General crook fought the native Americans and retreated even though they only lost 84 men of their 1000 and this lead to the reduction of forces also the was a attack plan of three prongs all meeting in the middle but this lead to one being missing also Custer further split up the 9th cavalry to gain the glory and that the normal plan for the native Americans was to scatter but this also lead to defeat
