how did europeans influence african dance

A

african people were taken to america as slaves in the 1600s, cutting them off from their families and cultures
1740 slavev act prevented them from playing the afrcian drums or performing african dances
so instead they blended the european dance features of stamping , clapping and vocal rythums to create jazz

what were minstrel shows

A

popular from 1845 to 1900
it was comic skits , variety acts , dance and music performed by white people who had darkened their faces to look black
they portrayed black people as ignorant , lazy , superstitious , musical and joyful
many black dnacers migrated to europe to join the emerging jazz seen

ww11 stopped social dancing
also jaz had evolved into something rhythmically complicated and difficult to dance to
jazz became more prominant on broadway and was more proffesionalised by the infusion of ballet and modern dance
