- A non Mormon wagon train of settlers was attacked by Mormons - Worried that the US army would retaliate, the Mormon military killed the 150 remaining adults to get rid of witnesses (17 children were spared which they planned to ‘adopt’) - They blamed Native Americans - US government investigated and convicted only 1 Mormon
