1st Amendement
guarantees freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition
2nd Amendment
ensures the right to keep and bear arms
3rd Amendment
sets conditions for quartering of troops in private homes
4th Amendment
regulates search, seizure, and warrants
5th Amendment
addresses protections against self-incrimination, guarantees of due process, eminent domain, and grand jury indictment for capital crimes
6th Amendment
guarantees rights to a speedy, public trial and an impartial jury; to confront witnesses; and to have an attorney
7th Amendment
preserves right to a jury trial in civil cases
8th Amendment
ensures no excessive bails or fines, nor cruel and unusual punishment
9th Amendment
cites unenumerated rights of the people
10th Amendment
reserves powers of the states and the people
-all powers not given to national gov are reserved to the states
11th Amendment
restricts lawsuits against states
12th Amendment
provides for election of president and vice-president by separate ballot in electoral college
13th Amendment
abolishes slavery
14th Amendment
guarantees rights of citizenship (to slaves too), due process, and equal protection
