1st Amendment
right to keep and bear arms
2nd Amendment
no quartering soldiers
3rd Amendment
protects the people from unreasonable searches and seizures
4th Amendment
protects people from being held for committing a crime unless they are properly accused - due process - can’t be tried for the same crime twice
5th Amendment
speedy and public trial - impartial jury - accused must be given a lawyer
6th Amendment
citizens guaranteed to a trial by jury - civil v. criminal - civil: someone sues someone else - criminal: when the state tries to convict someone of a crime
7th Amendment
no excessive bail or cruel and unusual punishment
8th Amendment
protection of rights not mentioned in the Constitution
9th Amendment
any power not granted to the federal gov’t belongs to the states and the people
10th Amendment
