what is a psychoactive drug?
- alters normal mental functioning, mood perception or thought
what is drug dependence?
compulsive pattern of drug use
what is drug tolerance?
user becomes progressively less affected by the drug

physical and psychological symptoms that occur when a regularly used drug is discontinued

1 - Amphetamines (increase arousal, relieve fatigue, suppress appetite)
2- Cocaine (produces feeling of euphoria)
3- Crack (most potent, cheap, addictive form of cocaine and is smoked)
4- Crash (sad, negative feelings that happen after the three other stimulants)
what are hallucinogens?
psychedelics (alter perception and mood)

1- LSD (hallucinations during panic and terror)
2- Ecstasy (MDMA) (permanent damage to the serotonin releasing neurons)
3- Marijuana (relaxation, giddiness)
what are depressants?
decrease activity in the CNS, slows down bodily functions
