MC:
- GERD
- lower airway infxn

- sepsis (fevers?)
- cardiac (FTT, murmur)
- abuse (multiple injuries)
BRUE next model
brief resolved unexplained event
- must be under 1 yr
- less than 1 min episode
- change color, tone, breathing, responsiveness
if you have this divide brue into low and high risk groups
low risk BRUE def
- things that do not have a history or physical that have signs of anything big:
- no CPR required
- first time, not recurring
- no fever
- no s/s abuse
- no seizure like activity
- term baby over 60 day low risk
- preterm baby gestational age over 32 weeks and post conception age greater than 45
low risk BRUE tx
reassure do not due anything
high risk brue tx
monitor, investigate find source
SIDS definition
- child who dies for no known cause
- dx made after child passes
SIDS prevention
- back to sleep!
- flatten head
- rotate head position - dont share bed
- smother risk - smoking cessation
- higher risk allergies, URI, infxn - kids preemie and congenital problems higher risk
SIDS what you do not do
no EKG, apnea, or try to predict who will get SIDS
