inhibits enzyme xanthine oxidase to prevent xanthine into uric acid concentration reduces amount available for build up in joint

side effects

A

GI disorder
Withdrawal therapy-if skin rash present, retry but if recurrent rash, stop and discontinue.
hypersensitivity

sometimes can rarely cause seizures, gynaecomastica, fevers, aplastic anaemia

amoxicillin and ampicillin increase hypersensivity reaction risk
acei increase hypersensitivity and haematological reaction risk
azathroprine- increase risk for haematological reaction
benzroflumetiozole- increases hypersensivity risk
