prevention of hypercaluremia in chemotherapy patients
MOA
inhibits enzyme xanthine oxidase to prevent xanthine into uric acid concentration reduces amount available for build up in joint
side effects
GI disorder
Withdrawal therapy-if skin rash present, retry but if recurrent rash, stop and discontinue.
hypersensitivity
sometimes can rarely cause seizures, gynaecomastica, fevers, aplastic anaemia
DI
amoxicillin and ampicillin increase hypersensivity reaction risk
acei increase hypersensitivity and haematological reaction risk
azathroprine- increase risk for haematological reaction
benzroflumetiozole- increases hypersensivity risk
A and A - haematological
antibiotic, acei and benzofluometrizole- risk for hypersensitivivty
things to consider
adequate fluid intake
consider NSAID or colchine for a month (usually 3 months ) post hypercaluremic correction to prevent an acute attack.
