Allie and Nel, Part 1 Flashcards
1
Q
- You feeling ok?
A
- That sucked.
2
Q
- It didn’t suck.
A
- Did you hear that last note? I sounded like a dying frog.
3
Q
Okay, so what? It was just one gig.
A
Yeah. One really bad gig.
4
Q
- We need to talk about you taking time off.
A
- No, we don’t.
5
Q
- Your voice is clearly suffering…time…to heal.
A
- I can’t, everyone is counting on me.
6
Q
- Since when do you care about anyone else?
A
- What’s that supposed to mean?
7
Q
- You’re doing this for you, aren’t you?
A
- Well, yeah. I mean, it’s my career.
8
Q
- Exactly. You need to look after yourself, no one else can.
A
- But the venues are booked solid, tickets are completely sold out. Canceling would wipe out all the progress I’ve made. I can’t manage that.
9
Q
- I’m literally your manager. It’s my job to worry about that stuff, not yours. If we have to cancel, we cancel. Are you listening to me?
A
- Yes
10
Q
- You’re not listening to me.
A
- I’m listening! This is just a mental thing. I need to do some meditation and a detox and get in the right head space. That’ll fix my voice.
11
Q
- That sounds like a stupid excuse to keep going.
A
- It’s not an excuse.
12
Q
- I’ve heard a million excuses in my life and that is definitely one of them.
A
- Whatever.
13
Q
- Listen, this is going to sound blunt…take time off.
A
- I don’t know ___?
14
Q
- That’s what I said.
A
- Yeah?
15
Q
- Yeah
A
- And how do you know?
16
Q
- Because I know things.
A
- Everyone knows things, I’m asking how you know that particular thing.
17
Q
- Because.
A
- Because what? What are you not telling me?
18
Q
- Nothing.
A
- You’re definitely not telling me something.
19
Q
- Ok, fine, you’re right, I went through something similar in my career.
A
- Why didn’t you ever tell me?
20
Q
- It’s embarrassing.
A
- What happened?
21
Q
- I was singing four nights a week…when I hit that last note.
A
- I’m sorry, I mean, obviously I know how humiliating that feels.
22
Q
- I didn’t like it…I came back stronger than ever.
A
- An entire year? I don’t even know what would do with myself if I didn’t have music, if I couldn’t perform on stage, even for a month.
23
Q
- You’re still a person without all this.
A
- I know that.
24
Q
- Do you?
A
- Yes.
25
Q
- Then there’s nothing more to discuss.
A
- Yes, there is. Honestly, before this I had nothing, I was just wasting my life at a dead end job, I felt like I was nothing. This is what I’m supposed to be doing, I know it in my heart, more than anything, I wouldn’t be out here on this tour right now if that wasn’t true. It took me forever to figure everything out but I’m finally doing what makes me happy. How many people can actually say that, really, that they’re genuinely doing the one thing they’re meant to be doing?
26
Q
- I’m not saying this isn’t what you’re supposed to be doing, there are ups and downs.
A
- It just feels like I would be throwing it all away if I stopped, what if this is the only chance I get?
27
Q
- Would you rather sound like a dying frog onstage every night for the rest of this tour?
A
- That was rude.
28
Q
- Your words, not mine.
A
- You really think it would be ok to take a break?
29
Q
- I know it would be.
A
- What would I even do with the time off?
30
Q
- Help around the studio…while you heal.
A
- You want me to do admin work?
31
Q
- Something to keep your mind busy.
A
- Okay, well, I’ll think about it.
32
Q
How do you know?
A
Because I also know things.
