Allergy and Immunology Flashcards
Treatment for anaphylaxis =
IM epi in a 1:1,000 concentration
Corticosteroids
H1-inhibiting antihistimaines such as benadryl or hydroxyzine
Epinephrine causes vasoconstriction through ___ and ___ receptor stimulation
alpha-1 and beta-2 receptors (vasoconstriction and bronchodilation)
Diagnose angioedema by checking
C2 and C4 in the complement pathway (will be LOW)
Treat angioedema with
recombinant C1 inhibitor concentrate (androgens are used for chronic episodes of hereditary angioedema)
Total IgG levels are low in
CVID
CVID is treated with
IVIG
This immunodeficiency can cause anaphylaxis during blood transfusions
IgA Deficiency
Treat IgA deficiency by
treating the infections as they arise (IVIG will not work)
Recurrent skin infections caused by staphylococcus =
Hyper IgE Syndrome
